Introduction

Welcome to MyParentingBook ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and the privacy of your children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website.

Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the site.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account using Google Sign-In, we collect the following information from your Google account:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Profile picture (if available)

We do not have access to your Google account password or any other Google services.

Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information when you visit our website:

  • Browser type and version
  • Device type
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Which tools were used (never what you entered into them)
  • Referring website
  • IP address (anonymized for analytics)

AI Tools Data

When you use our AI-powered tools, we may collect:

  • AI Chat: Conversations are stored for 90 days and then deleted; copies in our database backups are removed within about 30 days after that. For registered users, your conversations are listed in your profile, where you can open one to read or continue it, or delete it sooner. When you delete one, its text is removed from our database right away (copies in database backups are removed within about 30 days, and a flagged message stays in our security logs as described below). For questions asked today (UTC), a record without the text (only that you asked a question, and when) is kept so the daily question limit still applies, and is deleted in our nightly cleanup once that day is over. Guest conversations are also kept for 90 days, together with the IP address they came from, which we use for daily limits and to stop misuse. If we block an IP address for misuse, that address is kept on our block list until we remove it. Our team has access to stored conversations and reads them when reviewing safety or misuse.
  • Story Generator: The child's name and your story choices are sent to our AI providers (see AI Services below) to write the story. If you are signed in, every story is saved to your story library automatically, including the child's name, and stays there until you delete it or your account. Stories made as a guest are kept in your browser; if you later sign in on the same browser and open the Story Generator, they move into that account automatically. Read Aloud audio is the other exception (below).
  • Read Aloud: When you play a story aloud, its text, including the child's name, is sent to ElevenLabs to create the audio. The audio file is kept on our server so the same story does not have to be created again. It is not linked to you or your account, so deleting the story or your account does not remove it; it is deleted once it has not been played for 60 days. ElevenLabs also keeps the text and audio of each request in our account history with them; we delete that copy automatically, usually within a minute of the audio being created.
  • Activity Generator: The age range and preferences you choose are sent to our AI providers. If you are signed in and save an activity, it stays in your account, with those choices, until you delete it or your account.

Recall Watch (Products You Register)

Recall Watch lets you list child products you own (brand, product type and an optional model number) so we can compare them with newly published recalls.

  • Guests: the list stays in your browser (local storage). It is sent to us only to run the instant check and is not stored on our servers.
  • Registered users: products are stored with your account so new recalls can be compared with your list. They are deleted together with your account.
  • Recall Watch email: if you turn it on (it is off by default), we email you only when a recall reviewed by our Safety Desk is a likely match for a product on your list. We keep a record of which recall was sent to you so we do not send it twice. Turn it off any time in your profile or with the unsubscribe link in every email.
  • We do not share the list with manufacturers, retailers or advertisers, and we do not use it for marketing. Registering a product here does not register it with the manufacturer or any government agency.

Ratings, Reviews and Comments

  • Star rating on a tool: no name or email is asked. We keep your IP address with the rating so one person rates a tool once. If you are signed in, the rating is also linked to your account; your name is not shown with a star rating that has no written review.
  • Written tool review or article comment: we ask for your name, your email address and a confirmation that you are 18 or older and a parent or caregiver. We also keep your IP address to fight spam. For signed-in members, the name and email are pre-filled from their account.
  • What is public: your rating, your text and the name you gave. Your email address and IP address are never shown on the site. We do not send you a confirmation email and we do not use your email for marketing.
  • Moderation: a person reads every written review and comment before it appears. We may keep a star rating while removing text that is spam, off-topic or unsafe for children.
  • To have your review or comment removed, contact us using the details below.

Drawing Insights Tool

Important: This section specifically addresses how we handle images in our Drawing Insights tool.

Image Processing

  • No Storage: Images uploaded to our Drawing Insights tool are NOT stored on our servers. Images are processed in real-time and immediately discarded after analysis.
  • No Logging: We do not log, cache, or retain any uploaded images.
  • Temporary Processing: Images are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic, or OpenAI if Anthropic is unavailable) solely for the purpose of generating an analysis, after which they are deleted from our side.
  • No Database Storage: No image data is written to our database.

What the Tool Does NOT Do

Our Drawing Insights tool:

  • Does NOT make psychological or diagnostic claims
  • Does NOT analyze or diagnose emotional states
  • Does NOT provide medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice
  • Does NOT replace professional evaluation by qualified experts

The tool provides educational observations about visual elements such as colors, shapes, and composition for entertainment purposes only. For important health-related limitations of our tools, please see our Health Disclaimer.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain our services
  • Personalize your experience
  • Improve our website and tools
  • Respond to your inquiries and support requests
  • Send important notices (account security, policy updates)
  • Analyze usage patterns to enhance functionality
  • Prevent fraud and abuse

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

We take children's privacy seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Our Commitments

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age without verifiable parental consent.
  • Account registration requires users to be at least 13 years old.
  • Our parenting tools are designed for use by adults (parents, guardians, educators), not children.

Drawing Insights and Children's Art

When parents use the Drawing Insights tool to analyze their child's artwork, we want to clarify:

  • The drawing is submitted by the parent/guardian, not the child directly. Therefore, we are processing the parent's submission, not collecting data from a child.
  • No identifying information about the child is collected beyond the optional age range (which helps contextualize developmental observations).
  • As noted above, images are not stored and are deleted immediately after analysis.

Parental Rights

Parents and guardians have the right to:

  • Review any personal information we have collected about their child
  • Request deletion of their child's personal information
  • Refuse further collection of their child's personal information

Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data protection rights. We aim to take reasonable steps to allow you to correct, amend, delete, or limit the use of your personal data.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Google Services

Infrastructure

  • Cloudflare: Every request to our site passes through Cloudflare, which protects and speeds up the site and so sees your IP address and what you send us. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
  • Resend: Sends our emails (for example recall alerts, vaccination reminders and development emails), so it receives your email address and the email content, which can include your child's name. Resend Privacy Policy

AI Services

  • Anthropic (Claude) API: Powers our AI chatbot and all of our AI tools, including the story generator, activity generator, and Drawing Insights. Data sent to this API is subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through the API is not used to train their models.
  • OpenAI API (backup only): If the Anthropic service is unavailable, the same request is sent to OpenAI instead so that the chatbot and our AI tools keep working. This includes Drawing Insights, so an uploaded image can reach OpenAI in that case. Data sent to this API is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. Under OpenAI's API data controls, data sent through the API is not used to train their models, and OpenAI may keep it in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days.
  • ElevenLabs API: Creates the audio for the story generator's Read Aloud feature from the story text. Data sent to this API is subject to ElevenLabs' Privacy Policy.

Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in to your account
  • Remember your preferences (such as dark mode)
  • Understand how you use our website

Types of Cookies We Use

  • Essential Cookies: Required for the website to function (e.g., authentication).
  • Preference Cookies: Remember your settings and preferences.
  • Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how visitors interact with our website.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling certain cookies may affect website functionality.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information:

  • All data transmission is encrypted using SSL/TLS (HTTPS)
  • We never receive or store a password: sign-in goes through your Google account
  • Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel only
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Rate limiting to prevent abuse

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to:

  • Provide you with our services
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Resolve disputes and enforce our agreements

Retention Periods

  • Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
  • AI Chat History (members and guests): Retained for 90 days; members can delete it sooner
  • Uploaded Images (Drawing Insights): Not retained - deleted immediately after analysis
  • Read Aloud Audio: Deleted once it has not been played for 60 days; not linked to any account
  • Security Logs: Retained for 90 days. They include sign-ins, blocked requests and, when our safety checks flag an AI chat message, the first part of that message with the IP address it came from
  • Usage Statistics: Which tool or article was opened, with a daily rotating anonymous visitor key (or your account for signed-in members). Retained for 180 days. Never includes what you entered into a tool.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings. If your account has been suspended, email us at [email protected] and we will delete it for you. When you delete your account:

  • All your personal information is permanently deleted, except security logs (kept for up to 90 days), database backups (deleted after about 30 days) and Read Aloud audio files, which are not linked to your account and are deleted once they have not been played for 60 days
  • Your AI chat history is deleted
  • Your bookmarks and preferences are deleted
  • Your ratings, reviews and comments stay on the site, but your name on them is replaced with "A parent" and your email and IP address are removed from them. This also covers reviews you wrote before signing in with the same email. The text itself is not edited; contact us if you want it removed. Reviews and comments that were not yet published are deleted.

Account deletion is irreversible.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

  • Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
  • Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
