Hazard

The LED-light key that was included with certain SureLock Bicycle Lock sets violates the mandatory safety standard for consumer products with button cell and coin batteries because the button batteries can be accessed easily by children, posing an ingestion hazard. Additionally, the packaging and product do not have the warnings required under Reese’s Law. When button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns, and death.

What parents need to know

Giant Bicycle has recalled the LED-light keys that were included with certain SureLock Bicycle Lock sets. These keys were packaged along with a bike lock and additional, non-LED keys.

The recall was issued because the LED-light key violates the mandatory safety standard for consumer products with button cell and coin batteries. The battery inside the key can be accessed easily by children, and the packaging and product do not carry the warnings required under Reese's Law. If a button cell or coin battery is swallowed, it can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns, and death. Parents and caregivers should be aware of this risk with any product containing these batteries.

If you have one of the affected LED-light keys, stop using it immediately. Contact Giant Bicycle to arrange a $5 refund. You will need to bring the LED key to an authorized Giant retailer to complete the recall and receive the refund, along with either the complete bicycle lock purchase or a picture of the serial number on the bicycle lock so the retailer can verify it falls within the recall. You may continue to use the bicycle lock itself and any non-LED-light keys that came with the SureLock Bicycle Lock set.

Button and coin cell batteries are hazardous and should be disposed of or recycled according to your local hazardous waste procedures. For full details on which serial numbers are affected, refer to the official recall notice.
