The recalled magnetic building cubes contain magnets that can become loose if the cubes break or open, posing a magnet ingestion hazard to children. When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the ingested magnets can attract each other, or other metal objects, and become lodged in the digestive system. This can result in perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death.
What parents need to know
Goody King Magnetic Building Cubes and Blocks, imported by Yi Suen Commerce, have been recalled due to a magnetic ingestion hazard. These building cube sets are designed to stick together to create 3D shapes and designs, and are sold in a range of themed styles and colors.
The recall was issued because the cubes contain small, powerful magnets that can become loose if the cubes break or open. If magnets are swallowed, they can attract each other, or other metal objects, inside the body and become lodged in the digestive system. This can lead to perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning, and death.
Yi Suen Commerce is aware of two children who ingested magnets from the cubes and required surgery to have them removed. The company has also received at least 27 reports of the cubes breaking or opening, allowing the magnets to become loose and accessible to children.
Parents and caregivers should stop using the recalled magnetic building cubes immediately. Contact Yi Suen Commerce for a full refund; consumers will be provided with a pre-paid label to return the recalled cubes in order to receive their refund. Check the model number on the back of the product packaging against the official recall notice to confirm whether your set is included.
