The recalled fuel containers violate the mandatory safety standards for portable fuel containers because they lack flame mitigation devices required under the Portable Fuel Container Safety Act, posing a deadly flame jetting hazard. What parents need to know
Hyperfuels ethanol and methanol fuel containers have been recalled because they do not meet several federal safety requirements. The containers lack flame mitigation devices required under the Portable Fuel Container Safety Act, which creates a deadly flame jetting hazard. In addition, the methanol container is not child-resistant as required under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, which means there is a risk of serious injury or death if the contents are swallowed by young children. The containers also fail to meet the labeling requirements of the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.
The methanol container carries the Hyperfuels logo in red along with a phone number, and the label reads “Methanol,” “Methanol, 3, UN1230, II,” and “Flammable Liquid” in black lettering. The ethanol container is marked “E98,” “1 US Quart,” “Hyperfuels LLC,” and a phone number, also in black lettering. Parents and caregivers should check any fuel containers in their home against these markings.
If you have one of these containers, stop using it immediately. Contact Hyperfuels for a full refund or a replacement product. You will be asked to destroy the container by writing “RECALLED” on it in permanent marker and to send a photo to the address given in the official recall notice.
After that, dispose of the container and any remaining fuel according to your local and state disposal rules. Contact your local hazardous waste treatment center or ask about professional recycling points for methanol or ethanol fuel. Do not pour methanol or ethanol into sewers, rainwater pipes, or ordinary garbage cans, as this can cause fires or environmental pollution.

- Consumers should stop using the fuel containers immediately and contact Hyperfuels for a full refund or a replacement product. Consumers will be asked to destroy the fuel container by writing in permanent maker “RECALLED” on the product and to send a photo to sales@hyperfuels.com. Consumers should then dispose of the recalled product in accordance with local and/or state disposal procedures.
