The baby oil contains low-viscosity hydrocarbons, which must be in child-resistant packaging, as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The baby oil's packaging is not child-resistant, posing a risk of serious injury or illness from poisoning if the contents are swallowed by young children. Additionally, petroleum distillates can get into the lungs, causing chemical pneumonia and/or pulmonary damage, which can be fatal.

Shield Line is recalling MedPride Baby Oil bottles. This product is intended to smooth, soften, and moisturize skin and is described as hypoallergenic.
The recall is due to the packaging not meeting the mandatory standard for child-resistant packaging. The baby oil contains low-viscosity hydrocarbons, and if swallowed by young children, it can lead to serious injury or illness from poisoning. Ingesting petroleum distillates can cause chemical pneumonia or pulmonary damage, which can be fatal.
